Our Land Rovers

Varje familj har sin egen Land Rover Defender 110. Bilarna skiljer sig dock åt. Matte, Angela, Rasmus och Mollys vita Defender från 2001 har en 300Tdi motor och har importerats från Tyskland. Pekka, Lena, Frida och Moas gröna Defender från 2000 har en Td5 motor och inhandlades i Stockholm. Här berättar vi lite om bilarna och hur vi förberett dem inför resan. Engine parts
A new wiring loom fitted to reduce the risk for the known issue with oil leaking to the ECU. When replacing the wiring loom the rocker cover seal was also replaced. The original oil pump bolt was replaced and new thread locker applied. The oil sump seal has also been replaced. The starter was reconditioned.

Tyres
We, as many others, have choosen BF Goodrich All Terrain. We will also bring along 2 spare tyres.

Electrics
A dual battery system has been installed. We use batteries from Optima. A large number of sockets for different appliencies has been fitted to the body and interior.

Brakes and driveline
New brake calipers all around and new front brake discs. The wheel bearings, rear halfshafts and drive flanges have also been replaced. The front brake lines have been replaced with steel braided brakelines from BF Goodrich. As it was not enough the rear axel and UJ:s has been replaced.

Lights
New headlights was fitted due to a crack in the old ones. We also have 6 extra lights.

Shocks & springs
Old Man Emu springs and shocks have been fitted and hopefully will cope with the load and bad roads.

Cooling
For effective cooling of the engine the old radiator and hoses were replaced. An AC was fitted so that we would cope with the really hot days.

Sleeping Quarters
Two tents from Camping Lab, that was included when we bought the car, will be modified to a one large tent that measures roughly 280cm * 260cm. An additional Primus Bifrost H6 tent will also be used.

Food and cooking
Two MultiFuel stoves, pots, pans and a lot of other cooking asccessories from Primus will make our kitchen essentials. The stove can be run on most flamable liquids. We will though mostly use petrol. The 45 liter fridge/freezer from Ezetil will hold the food and beverages cold.

Water
A 70 liter water tank has been placed in the bottom of the luggage hold. An electrical pump will pump the water through the water filter from Genereal Ecology.

Windows
We have replaced the original rear side windows with hatches for better accessability and increased security.

Other
For increased stability an anti roll bar (rear) has been fitted.
